I stepped into my own body this morning

for the first time in awhile.

I smiled to the reflection in the mirror and said , “Hello.”

As if I was a stranger to myself

it responded with a, “welcome home.”

I placed my hand on my chest and whispered a thank you to my heart, “Thank you for the rhythm even though there were times that i did not want the beat to continue.”

I glance down at my shakey hands and whispered a thank you, “You always held on when everything was telling you to let go. You were white knuckled and ready to fight for this life even when my mind was not.”

I looked up at my reflection I smiled and i said, “I do not hate you, I do not fully love you but I’m sure as hell gonna fight to get there.” My body whispered back, “Welcome home, my love, please stay this time.”
